“Come to me, all who labor and are heavy-laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.” – Matthew 11:28-30 (ESV)
The past two weeks in the 2019 TMS Challenge has been challenging, hasn’t it?
Last month, I’ve been reading the book Subversive Sabbath, by A. J. Swoboda. In it, he lays out a challenge to be intentional about Sabbath rest, and so this might be a good time to take that to heart.
Take this week to rest intentionally from new memorization. Remind yourself of the verses we’ve covered and ask God to speak to you through those words. Christ’s words are true, and he promises rest for your souls. So how can focusing your life on “Christ the Center” bring that promised rest? How can rest be a practice of “Obedience to Christ?”
We will resume the challenge next Monday with the first vertical spoke, “The Word.” In the meantime, consider this Scripture and prayer:
“Be still, and know that I am God. I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth!” – Psalm 46:10 (ESV)
May the God of all peace give us the eyes to see opportunities for rest and peace this week and the obedience to take that rest. Amen.
